Short Bio
Thomas is a network engineer and social entrepreneur intrigued by the various sociopolitical effects of social media and Internet culture. He is an objectivist at heart and iconoclastic by nature, driven by challenge, curiosity, and aspirations of success.
Thomas has a Bachelors of Science in Information Science with a concentration in computer networking from UNC Chapel Hill. He is a member of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T), Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), and Association of Internet Researchers (AOIR).
His past employment includes the University of North Carolina, Cisco Systems, and the Department of Defense both as a military member and civilian. He is Owner and Founder of two startups, the University Encyclopedia Project (2009-2010), and the RTP Cisco Users Group (2009-Present).
Interests
Thomas’ interests include Internet Law, Entrepreneurship, Information Science, Information Society, Network Engineering, Network Neutrality, Social Sciences of the Internet, and Social Media.
Future Plans
In the near future Thomas intends on applying to Carnegie Mellon’s MS in Information Technology program (Information Security and Assurance), or to Syracuse University’s MS in Information Management or MS in Telecommunications and Network Management.
If the starts align right, he also plans on applying to Oxford’s Internet Institute to obtain a Masters of Science in the Social Sciences of the Internet.
Any of these degrees will help prepare him well for a long term career in Internet (Cyber) Law from Harvard, Stanford, or Yale, and help him contribute to issues such as privacy, copyright, free speech, network neutrality, and governmental information (cyber) warfare.
